Traditionally, the Textile sector has been the stronghold of the Indian economy, with the sector contributing a substantial proportion to the national GDP. Aligning with the importance of the sector, the Group started its first activities as a trading company in textiles. Gradually, over the years, the Group has diversified into various segments of the textile value chain.
Trading was the starting point of the Group and continues to be at its core. Late Shri Bhagirathji Rander laid the foundation stone of the Group in 1946 by starting silk and yarn trading operations from Nagpur. Over the years, the Group set up yarn selling offices for various reputed spinning mills (represented by the Group) at major textile centres across India - Ichalkaranji, Mumbai, Malegaon and Ahmedabad.
In 1996, the Group set its own spinning unit under the name of Sri Bhagirath Textiles Ltd. at Mohali Village in Nagpur. The company offers a variety of synthetic yarns from its ring spun unit and cotton yarns from its open end unit. Quality has been the primary focus of the Group in everything it undertakes. For the same reason, major machineries have been imported from Germany with state-of-art testing facilities and export accreditations. The company has already integrated backwards by setting up its own cotton ginning unit as well. Now, it plans to go into forward integration, tapping various levels of textile value chain.
Commodities
The Group ventured into the commodities segment in 1996. Taking cotton as its principle product, this division was started by Mr. Ramesh Rander under the name Shrigopal Rameshkumar (SR). The Group had already been into servicing the spinning units by selling their finished product (yarns). So he decided to tap the possibility of sourcing raw material (cotton) for these units as well. The head quarters of the Group, in the central city of Nagpur, turned out to be the ideal location for sourcing quality cotton from all regions of India.
Starting as sourcing agents, the Group enhanced its services by adding various infrastructural facilities like state-of-the-art laboratory, Swiss make USTER testing equipments, experienced field team for quality control and strong administration team to ensure smooth operations. Today, SR is a reputed name in international and domestic cotton markets and has affiliations with major international cotton testing laboratories like USTER, BCRT, etc. It is amongst the top five exporters and traders of raw cotton in India with offices in all major cotton growing states of the country like Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, etc. The company also deals in cotton seed, a by-product of ginned cotton.
With strong customer relationships built over two decades of engagement with premier spinning units across India, SR has built itself a brand name in delivering quality cotton at the most competitive prices on the committed timelines. The company's drive for keeping commitments has built it a stature, where it's become a benchmark for delivering on commitments amongst suppliers and customers.
Natural Stones
Having established its foothold in textile yarn segment, the Group diversified into natural stone retailing in 1979. This initiative was driven by Mr. Shreegopal Rander (Maheshwary) who sensed a big gap in availability of finished natural stones in the regional markets, especially South India.
The Group set up its first marble processing unit under the banner, Maheshwary Marbles Pvt. Ltd. in the historical city of Chittorgarh (Rajasthan) in 1984. Over the years, the Group entered into various spheres of the natural stones industry, like mining, polishing and undertaking turnkey projects. Today, the Group has established marble mining activities, along with advanced processing capabilities in the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.
Maheshwary Marbles also has retail selling outlets in major developing cities like Coimbatore, Mumbai, Cochin, Kota, Bareilly and Nagpur catering to all parts of the country. In South India, the company owns the biggest stock yard of natural stones offering around 700 varieties of imported and local natural stones at a single location.
